The Dream Within a Dream
Chapter 1
Way back before the days of time, in the land of Nod, there could be found a kingdom of people both large and small. It was an age of peace, for all creatures lived in harmony. The meaning of war had been long forgotten, except for the ancient dragon, for it is he who guards the gateway of time. No one could pass through for no one would enter and none would return.
The kingdom in this enchanted land is called Love, for they all live to help the other. Because of this no one was alone and it was like paradise. Until the dragon one day was gazing into a crystal pond and in his reflection he found that he was empty and alone. Now a lonely dragon is rather hard to live with, so the people of the kingdom got together to try and solve the problem.
While the people were talking, they noticed a knight in shining armor riding on a white steed. The people of Love were amazed by this sight for they had never seen a knight and knew not the nature of the war. As he drew closer he began to speak, "I come from the future through the door of your past, I know of your problem," he said as he dismounted, "And I can help. Far off in the land of Blink," the brave knight began, "There lives a very young dragon, she is alone, and knows not of Love, and so if you help one you will help the other."
So began the quest, this was the first time people, both large and small had been drawn together for the common good of all. There where many questions to be answered, and many problems to be overcome, but this was land and place in time where magic was the driving force behind the desires of all who wish to help, for Love was to be shared if it were to grow, and everyone knew that it must spread from their kingdom throughout all worlds, present, past, and those yet to come.
The brave knight began to speak again, "I am Eceap the Seeker; I travel through worlds and kingdoms to seek adventure where it can be found, and to help those of pure heart. If you can find among you four hearty souls who will not shrink in the face of danger, who thirst for adventure, and will fight for the truth, we leave in the morning to the Mountain of Dreams. There we will gain the knowledge and tools needed for our journey."
Traeh, the little winged one, spoke up first; "It would be an honor to adventure with one such as you," said he hoping to be selected.
Eceap said to Traeh, "I see that your heart is as big as your desire to help. You will be of great value on this journey." Traeh was so happy, that he flew straight up and did a double somersault before touching the ground!
Dnik, the smallest one there, bravely asked, "May I be of service, there are places I can enter where no one else can go." Dnik was no taller than a large mushroom, and knew how to use his size to his advantage. "You shall ride with me, Dnik," said Ecaep, "I have a place for you on the front of my saddle, for you have soul of a warrior, and the courage to match."
Thgil stepped forward, and said, "I am a finder and holder of magic and a seer of thoughts. Magic is always needed when dealing with dragons. I am at your command Ecaep." Thgil was a forest dweller, from the Enchanted Grove, and could see the thoughts of most creatures, including men. Forest dwellers were about half a man's size and were known for their ability to communicate with animals and to travel unseen in the woodlands.
"Welcome", said Ecaep, "You have chosen a path of adventure that will give you many stories to tell the young forest dwellers, for not only will you experience things unknown, you will also see your dreams fulfilled."
Evola was the last to present her self. She was a Lowlander, who had and knew how to use the knowing. The magic of the knowing is very powerful, only Lowlanders possessed the knowledge to use it for the good of all. Among the Lowlanders, only Evola possessed the courage to leave the safety of her village. She said, "I will bring to the quest a love of life, and the knowing, the first for nurturing, and the second, for our protection against what lies ahead." Her fiery spirit was displayed with an unequaled beauty, as the light of the knowing emanated from her entire being.
Ecaep was well pleased to have one such as Evola join them on their quest. He said, "Our traveling party is now complete. In the morning we shall leave for the Mountain of Dreams."
The journey to the Mountains of Dreams would be no easy task, for to reach the mountain, they must pass through many perils. Only those of pure heart and good intent could survive such a journey. They must pass through the Valley of Shadows, travel across the Plane of Understanding, go through the Forest of Illusion, and then cross the Pools of Time, on their way to the Mountain of Dreams.
Now it was time to prepare for the adventures that lay ahead. The people of Love set out a feast in honor of those who would be leaving in the morning. There was food, song, and dance for all the travelers. There were well wishes and merriment from everyone in the kingdom.
When morning had come, the people of the kingdom gathered together to see them off. Ecaep and Dnik rode together, Evola, rode upon a dark horse named Hturt with Thgil mounted behind her. Traeh flew along as they rode towards the Mountain of Dreams.
As they left the kingdom of Love, they began to descend deep into the Valley of Shadows. The Valley of Shadows had ended many journeys because the shadows would cause those who wish to pass through to fall into deep despair and abandon their journey in hopelessness. Evola, feeling the despair encircling them, expanded the light of her knowing so that all of the members of their group where inside the light and protected by the knowing.
The shadows fled from the light and exposed the remains of many attempted journeys through the valley. There where rusted suits of armor, and bones of horses and men who could not find their way out of the despair, and who fell in the darkness of the shadows. Only creatures of darkness could thrive in this desolate place, they hid behind rocks and dead trees as the light of the knowing moved through the Valley of Shadows.
Ecaep led them out of the Valley of Shadows on to the Plain of Understanding where they were able to rest and reflect on the first part of their journey. They set up camp and built a fire to cut the chill of the evening. Ecaep said, "Evola, the light of the knowing has brought us through the darkness of despair, to this place of understanding, and has truly saved our lives." Evola softly smiled as she snuggled into her blankets to rest for the night. All the others bedded down as well. Their campfire warmly lit their faces as the soft winds blew gently through the Plain of Understanding, singing a melody of peace and courage to the weary travelers. Shooting stars raced through the sky as they told each other goodnight and went to sleep.
The morning sun rose over the Plain of Understanding, optimism filled the travelers as they welcomed the new day. They ate a modest breakfast of flat cakes given to them by the people of love for their journey. The flat cakes where very nourishing and would never spoil. They mounted their horses and headed again toward the Mountain of Dreams. Crossing the Plain of Understanding, gave them all a deeper insight into the reason of their journey. As their understanding grew, so did the love between them, strengthening their bond and singleness of purpose.
Far off in the distance they could see the edge of the Forest of Illusion. The closer they came to the Forest of Illusion, the thicker it appeared to be. Ecaep said, "We must pass through the Forest of Illusion, then cross the Pools of Time before reaching the Mountain of Dreams. Through the center of the forest flows the River of Hidden Feelings and must be forded with great care, because a hidden feeling can pull you under, never to be seen again."
As they entered the Forest of Illusion, the brush seemed to close in around them. After only a few moments they could see nothing but the forest, that seemed to be growing around them, as the vines moved toward them. Thgil, who was the forest dweller, saw through the illusion and said to them all, "Hold love in your thoughts and you will see through the illusion." They did as Thgil said. The vines receded and the path was once again visible. As they approached the River of Hidden Feelings Thgil could see uncertainty in the thoughts of his companions. He said," only love is real in the Forest of Illusion. You must all once again focus on love to safely ford the river." Thgil also told the horses to do the same in a language without words he called heart-speak. The love between the travelers was so strong that they easily forded the river, by keeping their eyes and thoughts on one another, and love in their hearts. Their bond was so strong that no hidden feeling could surface or pull any of them under.
On the other side of the river, the Forest of Illusion continued to distract and surround the travelers, once their thoughts were on the illusion the travelers lost sight of each other. Traeh flew high in hopes to be able to see his companions, but even there the Forest of Illusion reached up and surrounded him. Not one of the travelers could see the other so they began calling out to each other. Ecaep said to his companions, "Stop where you are and answer my call if you can hear me." Evola replied, "Thgil and I are here and safe." Her voice was not far off. Thaeh said, "I can hear all of you below me, but I can not see any of you." Thgil, calling to all of them, said "remember what I told you when we first entered the Forest of Illusion. Only love is real in this forest, focus on love and the illusion will quickly fade." All of the travelers did as Thgil said and once again the Forest of Illusion receded revealing their path and each other. As the travelers faced each other, they realized that their love for each other had freed them from the illusion. How easily they had forgotten their love when their thoughts were on the Forest of Illusion, and how they were almost consumed by the illusion. The travelers continued through the Forest of Illusion keeping their eyes on one another, and love in their thoughts, to keep the path clear. As they neared the edge of the forest, the keeper of the Forest of Illusion dropped from a high place on to the path before them. His large frame blocked the entire path; he was clothed in vines and stood as tall as a dragons shoulder. He said, "I am Efil, the keeper of the Forest of Illusion. You did not fall to the illusion, so now you all must pass by me to leave my forest." Ecaep dismounted and gently set Dnik on the ground, Ecaep said, "Why do you block our path? We mean you no harm, and are on our way to the Mountain of Dreams." "Dreams mean nothing to me," said Efil, "and how did you come so far through my forest?" While Efil was talking, Dnik ran unseen through Efil's legs. Once Dnik had made it past Efil, the rest of the travelers focused their love on Dnik through Efil as though Efil were not there. Having done that, the grandest illusion of the forest disappeared and they were suddenly out of the Forest of Illusion.
The travelers then entered the Meadow of Meditation, where they were able to rest and meditate on what they had just been through. They realized that the most important element on their journey through the Forest of Illusion was the love they held for one another, for it allowed them to see through the illusion. As the travelers sat around their camp fire Ecaep said, "Thgil because of your love, and knowledge of the forest, you were able to see through the illusion and help us to do the same as well." Thgil was well pleased that his skills had saved them. The travelers all went to sleep, dreaming of the adventure that awaited them.
Sunrise in the Meadow of Meditation was a beautiful thing, wildflowers colored the fields as an artist would his canvas. The birds seemed to share the joy that the travelers were feeling after having experienced the saving power of their love. With the new day bringing promises of more adventure, the travelers mounted their horses and headed again toward the Mountain of Dreams.
The mountain was finally in sight, but there was one more obstacle to over come before the travelers could begin their quest, and would reach the Mountain of Dreams. They must cross the Pools of Time that ring the base of the mountain. This was the greatest peril that the travelers had to face since their departure from the kingdom of Love. The pools of time have no boundary save that which rimmed the surface, and of that the only thing that held it together was the here and now. As they approached the Pools of Time, Ecaep dismounted to study the course of action they would take in their crossing. There were seven rings of pools around the base of the Mountain of Dreams, with each pool of time touching the one next to it. Ecaep said to his companions, "Behold! Our greatest challenge yet, the crossing of the Pools of Time can only be done without thought, for all thought lives in the past or future. Only in the present will we be able to cross the Pools of Time, by staying in the here and now."
Evola said to Ecaep and the others, "I feel the truth of Ecaep's words deep with in my knowing." As she spoke the light of her knowing began to show once again the sparkling beauty of her spirit. Evola said, "We must rest and ready ourselves for crossing the Pools of Time tomorrow. Come, let us build a fire and camp here for the night." Thgil gathered wood for the fire, the rest of the travelers made ready their camp. The Pools of Time had a strange glow under a moonless sky, with flashes of light beaming rainbow colors through the waters, the colors seemed to pass from one pool to the next. This sight was both beautiful and foreboding at the same time, giving the travelers a since of awe as they considered the adventure that awaited them in the morning.
As they ate their morning meal Ecaep began to explain to his companions how they could cross the Pools of time. He said, "To stay in the here and now can only be done in emotion or experience void of thought. If you have a thought the Pools of Time will begin to move, and you will be pulled through time in the direction of your thought. The strongest emotion we know is love, and we must not think love, only feel love deep within the essence of our being." Ecaep said to Traeh, Dnik, and Thgil, "You must find within your hearts a great love and move it to emotion so that you all may be able to cross the Pools of Time." They searched their hearts for that special emotion that would lift them, and each one found within them that place called the here and now, which connects the past and the future but is neither. At that point Ecaep took Evola in his arms and tenderly embraced her, they both slipped into the here and now and felt a great love between them locked in deep emotion. Ecaep guided Evola by the hand and stepped out on to the surface of the Pools of Time, the waters seemed to be as solid as the ground. As they began to walk across the Pools of Time, locked in deep emotion, the rest of the travelers did the same, each deep within their own emotion.
As long as the waters of Pools of Time remained smooth all was well, but when Dnik looked upon the waters, thinking of how far they must go, the waters around Dnik began to ripple. As the waters began to move, Dnik fell immediately through time, beginning an endless freefall, his thought was of the future so he fell forward through time.
The rest of the travelers having placed themselves firmly in the experience of here and now, through deep emotion, did not see Dnik fall through time as the waters moved to the time of his thoughts. It took them forever, but yet just an instant, to cross the seven rings of the Pools of Time.
When they were on the mountain side of time, they realized that not all of them had made it across the Pools of Time. Evola looked in her knowing and saw what had happened. "If only Dnik had not thought about our crossing, we would all still be together," said Evola, grieving the loss of their companion, "But we must go on, for harmony in Love is at stake." All of the travelers were saddened.
Though the waters of the Pools of Time seemed as solid as the ground they walked upon, when the waters moved to the time of Dnik's thought he fell through as if it were air. In a twisting turning freefall, each time his body would turn, he would see his companions as though he were looking at them from the inside of a mirror. Dnik could see into the future as he fell through the layers of time, he saw them begin their assent on the Mountain of Dreams, then he saw them standing before the great doors of a magnificent castle. Dnik could feel himself falling through the layers of time, each time he saw his friends they were at another place in time.
The base of the Mountain of Dreams was littered with the jagged shards of broken dreams that had been lost when the dreamers no longer believed that their dreams would come true. The travelers pressed on, with great sadness, still feeling the loss of Dnik. Ecaep said, "The Mountain of Dreams is made from enduring dreams held together by hope. There are dreams of every shape and size, stacked one upon the other, forming a peek so high that it goes through the clouds." Ecaep continued, "At the very summit lives Modsiw the Magnificent, the greatest wizard of our world. It is he who will guide us on our journey, and help us to restore harmony in Love. Hope is the foundation and substance of the Mountain of Dreams. The belief of the dreamer calls forth hopes it is this kind of faith needed to climb the mountain."
Though the loss of their companion was still weighing heavily the travelers began their assent up the Mountain of Dreams. They had to move carefully through the jagged shards of the broken dreams. Ecaep said cautioning the rest of the travelers, "It is easy to be wounded by the sharp reality of these broken dreams, and we have suffered enough loss." As they climbed above the broken dreams they found the Path of Faith that would take them to the door of Modsiw the Magnificent.
They were transformed from the inside out and filled with a light that could be seen in their eyes. The path was steep and very narrow, but carefully marked. As the travelers climbed they were able to see how far they had come, and what they had come through. Far off in the distance they could see the Valley of Shadows that appeared as a dark pit, and the brightly lit Plane of Understanding. They could also see the huge Forest of Illusion, with the River of Hidden Feelings winding through the center of it, the colorful Meadow of Meditation, and the glistening Pools of Time that sparkled like a diamond necklace around the base of the Mountain of Dreams. At the bottom of the mountain lay the remains of all of the fallen dreams looking like a thousand broken mirrors that had been shattered by an unseen hand. Above the travelers, billowy clouds obscured the top of the mountain and the mystic castle of Modsiw the Magnificent
.
As they ascended high into the clouds that covered the top of the Mountain of Dreams, they could no longer see what was before them or what was behind them. The only thing that they could see was the Path of Faith and of that, only one step at a time! Ecaep led the way with Blind Faith as his guide, boldly putting one foot after the other. All of the travelers held on to one another as they slowly ascended through the clouds. There was only one place this path would lead, to the door of Modsiw the Magnificent. Ecaep stopped and said, "We can go no further now because there is a break in the Path of Faith." He felt the ground with his hand and found a loose rock, he then dropped it over the edge, and there was no sound. Ecaep said to Traeh, "Only you can know how big the break in the path is, so fly slowly until you can touch the other side." Traeh did as he was told and said, "You can not see the other side, but it is not far, you can jump the distance," Evola, in her knowing saw herself on the other side, so upon her dark horse Hturt, she leapt toward Traeh's voice and landed firmly on the Path of Faith. "You can do it, Ecaep," she said, "Thgil and I are here and safe." Ecaep took the Leap of Faith as well, but knowing that it had been done made it easier for him to do the same. With all of them on the other side of the chasm, the travelers continued slowly through the mist until finally golden beams of sun light penetrated the heavy mist of the clouds. As they emerged into the sun light they saw above them the enchanted castle of Modsiw the Magnificent.
The huge castle with spiraling towers gleamed in the sun light with the wisdom of ages. It sat like a crown upon the summit of the Mountain of Dreams. As they stood at the huge doors of the castle, a strange feeling came upon all of the travelers. Evola said, "I feel as though Dnik is here this instant, I feel him close by." The rest of the travelers shared the closeness of that same feeling.
As Ecaep was about to knock, the huge doors opened by themselves. A voice thundered out, and said, "Enter my friends," but no one was present. The travelers entered a great hall and the huge doors closed behind them. The walls were covered with ideas that sparkled with the glow of new creation. They would soon learn that they were in the Chamber of Thoughts; this is the place where all dreams begin. "I see that you have traveled far and through many perils to find me," the voice thundered again. Suddenly a wind began to blow and the doors at the far end of the hall flew open to a stairway. The travelers stayed close to each other as they walked toward the doors. As they entered the stairway they could see pictures of themselves on the walls. Evola said, "Look! This one is when we were in the Valley of Shadows." Thgil spoke up next and said, "Here we are in the Forest of Illusion." The travelers could once again see where they had been. The stairway wound around a great column, as they slowly climbed the steps they looked at images of their journey with wonder and awe. Then they came to a picture that showed them climbing the stairway and looking at themselves climbing the stairway. There were still frames on the walls, but after that, they were all empty. The stairway led them up to a high tower within the castle; it was in this lofty tower that Modsiw the Magnificent would reveal himself to the travelers.
They were startled as the door at the top of the stairway flew open with a bang! Ecaep boldly walked into the castle observatory, the others followed huddled close together. Modsiw sat at a large table covered with scrolls and books, as they entered he looked up from his studies and said, "I have been waiting for you for a very long time, it was foretold from the beginning that this day would come." Modsiw the Magnificent stood and turned to a wall of books and scrolls. He pulled an ancient scroll from the top shelf, returning to the table he unrolled it, as he looked upon the ruins he glanced up and said, "You must be Ecaep the Seeker, and I welcome you and your companions." Modsiw opened a clinched fist and upon his palm sat a ball of fire. He tossed it into the air and with a great flash of light they were all in another chamber.
Modsiw's servants entered the hall carrying clothing of a royal sort for all the travelers. He said, "Rest and refresh yourselves, later we will eat and talk, for we have much to discuss." Modsiw the Magnificent opened his hand again and with another fiery flash of light he was gone. Modsiw's servants led each of the travelers to their rooms, where they were able to bathe and dress for the feast. Evola walked into her room and upon her bed was a beautiful gown adorned with gems. "How wonderful!" she exclaimed, as she picked it up and twirled around the room as though it were a dance partner. They all dressed for dinner and were met by Modsiw in the dining hall, where the travelers were the guests of honor at the feast. Ecaep and his companions were entertained by musicians, and dancers from every realm in all worlds. There were emissaries from every kingdom there to pay tribute to the travelers, for their deeds and purpose dwell in the heart of all from before creation until now. After the feast, Modsiw the Magnificent dismissed everyone, except the travelers. Modsiw said, as they reclined in the dining hall, "You have come to me because harmony in Love is at stake. Not only does this affect our world, but all worlds, those of the past, present worlds, and those yet to come. The future of all will be determined by the choices you make. Your motives and desires have served you all well, for only those of pure heart and good intent can make it to my door. The ruins foretold of your quest, and you are all known by name in the heart of all. The prophecy of the ruins is unfolding as we speak."
Modsiw led them to his armory, where there were special suits of armor for all of the travelers. He said, "For you Ecaep the Seeker, life has given wanderlust and a thirst for adventure, take now this golden shield to protect your passion, and keep full your desire to experience that which lies before you." Modsiw continued, "For you Evola, this cloak of feeling will add to your knowing giving you the power to see through any deception you may encounter." The cloak sparkled with rainbow colors as she placed it across her shoulders, at that instant she felt Ecaep's heart beating only for her. She laughed with delight as the light of her knowing danced with the rainbow colors of her cloak, revealing once again the supernatural beauty of her fiery spirit. Modsiw spoke again saying, "Thgil your courage is uncommon among the forest dwellers, take this staff of fortitude to aid you on your journey." When Thgil took the staff in his hand it sparked from top to bottom. "It likes you," laughed Modsiw as Thgil jumped with surprise. " Traeh , to you I give this pouch of will powder , you. will find that it is a very thin line that separates your will from your wishes , this will help you to erase that line , and it is only your good intent that will allow you to use it," said Modsiw with a smile.
As Dnik continued to fall through time, he saw the travelers standing before a great vessel, he saw them next being lashed about by a fierce storm at sea, and when he turned again he saw them on land, and again at a fork in the road. Then Dnik saw Evola and Thgil riding upon Hturt caught in a sinking mire. When he saw his companions in peril, he thought back to when he had fallen through time. Dnik's thought was now of the past so he began falling backwards through time, seeing the events in reverse, but still lost in a never-ending freefall.
Modsiw the Magnificent opened his fist again and in another fiery flash they were all in the first hall that they had entered in the castle. Modsiw said, "This is the Chamber of Thoughts, the point where all dreams begin, without this place our world could not exist." As he spoke the ideas that covered the walls sparkled with more intensity. "As each idea matures and glows bright with new creation, it will detach itself from the wall and find its way to the dreamer who believes it will come to pass," continued Modsiw. "When the dream is fulfilled it comes back and attaches itself to the Mountain of Dreams as an enduring dream. So now you can see the power that comes when the dream and the dreamer join together. The idea that harmony in Love could be restored started here. In your hands rests the fate of our world, for love can not grow without harmony, and without love we would cease to exist." Modsiw motioned for the travelers to follow him into another great hall. "Come," he said with a smile, in the middle of this hall was a large model of their world, with its mountains, valleys, and oceans. Modsiw said, "We are here," pointing to the tallest mountain in the map room. "Your journey will take you here," he said pointing to the other side of the map room. "You will have to travel deep into the realm of Unconscious Reality to the land of Blink. It is there you must seek out Tsurt, the keeper of Precious Things; it is only through her that harmony in Love can be restored. Tsurt is as old as time herself and remains uncommonly beautiful to this day." Modsiw continued, "Your journey to this point has only been a shadow of that which is before you. It is now up to all of you to complete the dream held in the heart of all, your courage and determination will continue to serve you as the dream unfolds. Within each of you lives the knowledge to guide you safely on this path. This has already been demonstrated many times and made known by your presence here. The fate of all worlds will be shaped by the choices you make, and the actions you take. I can take you to the edge of this realm, it is there that you will feel the call of the adventures awaiting you, and your quest will truly begin. The object of your longing is the object of everyone's longing, and in your experience you will be fulfilled, so you all have my blessing and carry with you all, the dream which is to be."
Modsiw opened his fist and once again in another fiery flash of light, they were all in another place at the edge of the Realm of Dreams. Modsiw said, "I can go no further, but if you need me ask and I will be there. Each of you carries part of me, and I a part of you."
Modsiw had taken them far beyond the Mountain of Dreams to a distant shore, and with a final good wish he bid them farewell. Before them lay the Sea of Humanity, filled with the desires of all and set in motion by the passion that fuels creation. The travelers all felt the pull of the sea, it seemed to beacon them enter. In a trance like state they walked close to the shore, where a strange fog lay heavily upon the Waters of Desire, so thick it looked as though they could stand on it. A wind came suddenly from behind them that parted the fog, and there before them was a great vessel. As they stood before the great vessel, all of the travelers felt Dnik's presence strongly. In that instant Traeh reached into his pouch of will powder, through a handful into the air and said, "I will Dnik here now!" The sky opened, looking as though a stone had been thrown into a pond, and Dnik dropped through the ripples on to the ground before Traeh, finally released from his freefall through time. All of the travelers were overjoyed to be reunited. Traeh flew straight up and began doing summersaults in the air above them. Evola picked Dnik up, she said, "I can not believe you are really here!" Finally the shadow of loss had been lifted from the travelers. Tears of joy ran down Dnik's face as he greeted his companions with love.
On the bow of the great vessel were the words, "Kismat Allah", a landing craft from Kismat Allah moved toward them as if being guided by an unseen hand. When the landing craft stopped the travelers climbed aboard, as they did sound filled the air with the Song of Destiny coming from Kismat Allah. "Your names are known. Your courage has shown. As the dream unfolds. The story is told. We will take you there. The glory we will share. Come one come all. Who hear this call. The love we will build. The golden shield. The world will wait. Beyond the gate." The landing craft began moving toward Kismat Allah and the travelers were filled with a new since of awe and adventure, remembering the words of Modsiw the Magnificent. "Your journey to this point has only been a shadow of that which is before you." As they neared Kismat Allah, a strange glow filled the ship and their hearts. "Lower the ladder," said the captain, "Welcome," he continued, "I am Captain Etaf, master of Kismat Allah, it is not by chance that you are here, for it is written in the stars that you would be here today, your horses will also be brought aboard and made ready for passage." After boarding Ecaep said, "I am Ecaep the Seeker, these are my companions, Evola who has the knowing, Traeh my winged friend, Thgil the forest dweller, and upon my shoulder is Dnik our beloved friend. We must go deep into the realm of Unconscious Reality and find Tsurt the keeper of Precious Things." "We are at your service," said Captain Etaf. "Your names and the purpose of your journey are known in the Heart of All, it is for that purpose that we are here to aid you on your quest." Captain Etaf continued, "The Sea of Humanity holds many mysteries, wonders, and perils. Today we will embark on a journey like no other, upon the Waters of Desire our lives have been built, and upon the Sea of Humanity we shall sail to our chosen destiny."
The crew began unfurling the sails and lifting the anchor, the sea seemed to whisper songs of courage and adventure to the travelers. As they sailed away from the Realm of Dreams the Sea of Humanity seemed calm. Kismat Allah cut silently through the Waters of Desire carrying with it the hopes and dreams of all worlds past, present, and those yet to come. "The Sea of Humanity touches every shore and every soul, it is alive with the desire and passion that gives meaning to life," said Captain Etaf, "Contained within the Waters of Desire are the highest highs and the lowest lows that anyone could possibly imagine, which makes all things possible. It is the purpose of heart and the content of one's spirit that will determine what will be experienced during our passage."
As night fell the Winds of Change began to transform the tranquil Waters of Desire into an angry sea. Kismat Allah was tossed about as the Winds of Change increased its rage upon the Sea of Humanity. Captain Etaf shouted, "Furl the sails, baton down the hatches, and secure that which you do not wish to loose." The crew responded with swiftness and skill. Captain Etaf stood firm at the wheel, unmoved by the fierce winds and pounding sea. The storm sails were up and the rigging secured. The travelers and all of the crew went below. Captain Etaf stood alone against the storm guiding Kismat Allah with a masterful hand.
Below the deck of Kismat Allah, safe from the rage of the storm, the crew danced and sang songs of courage and the sea. One of the crew played a concertina, and another played the flute. The travelers joined in the dance as the ship danced upon the Sea of Humanity. They sang, "Life is long, life is good. We sail the sea, like we should. Though the storm tare our sail, if we try we will not fail. The waters deep, the waters cold. Upon it sails our spirits bold. Though the sea is our love, our strength does come from up above. In the morning light we will find, that the sea to us has been kind." Evola and Ecaep danced, hooking each other arm in arm and reversing their direction. The pitch of the sea made them loose their balance, they laughed as some of the crew helped them to their feet. Dnik, Traeh, and Thgil, clapped and sang along with the crew. The storm raged through the night, the travelers and crew grew weary and retired to their quarters. Though sleep could not be found, the morning light found its way to Kismat Allah. The Winds of Change sang a softer song and a calm fell upon the Sea of Humanity.
The travelers and crew worked hand in hand as the days passed. Captain Etaf called everyone aboard to the aft deck where the crew assembled, as he spoke stillness fell upon the ship. He said, "Tomorrow we will reach the center point of our journey and the Isle of Doubt. There some of us must go ashore for food and water. The island has a strange air about it that can cause the strongest mind to doubt its purpose or reason." Even the Winds of Change became still as Captain Etaf spoke, "Many sailors have been lost to the doubt, never to be seen again. They do not vanish, they just choose to live in doubt, and do not return to their ships. Only faith and determination can overcome the doubt. Ecaep, you and your companions have the faith and determination needed to overcome doubt, so you will be our landing party." Ecaep said, "We will do as you wish, Captain, for it is only faith and determination that has brought us this far, and it is faith and determination needed to restore harmony in Love."
When the morning light found Kismat Allah, the Isle of Doubt could be seen on the horizon. The watchman shouted, "Land ahead!" The strange air that surrounded the island could also be seen in the distance.
Upon their arrival to the Isle of Doubt, the anchor was lowered well outside of the strange air. Ecaep and his companions boarded the landing craft knowing that their resolve would be tested. Ecaep said, "We have traveled far and through many perils together you must know in your hearts that the obstacles before us will be overcome just as the perils already past. The hand of destiny and the purpose of the quest are the forces guiding and guarding our lives." Evola looked within her knowing and said, "The doubt is strong, having a life of its own, and we must stay within the boundaries of our reason when we enter the strange air of the Isle of Doubt." The travelers felt the pull of the doubt as they beached their landing craft. Once they were inside the strange air of the island they saw every thing differently, even Kismat Allah looked strangely unreal. Ecaep said, "We know how and why we are here, but even now the doubt is attacking our reason. Let us remain of one mind while we search for food and water." The island was covered with fruit trees, birds, and streams winding to the sea. Ecaep and his companions gathered eggs, filled kegs with water, and gathered fruit from the island. As the travelers searched the jungle for supplies they came upon a clearing, what they saw there amazed them. There was a temple and from out of the top of the temple flowed the strange air that covered the Isle of Doubt. The temple had been built by those who had lost their reason and choose to live in doubt. Just beyond the temple was a village where lived all of the sailors who had fallen under the spell of the strange air of the island. The traveler's singleness of purpose helped them to keep their reason.
Evola could feel an evil presence following them just out of sight, when she turned to look behind her she could only see the dense vegetation of the jungle. Evola said to her companions, "I feel an opposite force following us." Ecaep and the others felt the evil force as well. Ecaep said, "Let us complete our task here as quickly as we can and leave this strange place." They had gathered baskets of fruit and eggs, the travelers also loaded the kegs of fresh water, the boat was loaded with supplies and they headed back to Kismat Allah.
Even though they had safely left the Isle of Doubt, an opposite force followed them. The travelers had not fallen under the spell of the doubt, but were now being followed by the Shadow of Doubt. Ecaep and his companions once again boarded Kismat Allah, Captain Etaf said, "Well done my friends, not many return from that place." Evola said, "We were followed from the island by an opposite force, and I can feel the Shadow of Doubt near by." Lingering in the distance, the Shadow of Doubt was waiting for that perfect time to attack the travelers.
The Winds of Change began to blow as if it were an appointed time. Captain Etaf shouted, "Way the anchor, and set the sails my lads, for our destiny is calling." Once again Kismat Allah was moving through the Sea of Humanity with direction and purpose, sailing toward the land of Blink deep in the realm of Unconscious Reality.
Far off in the distance they could see a dark spot behind them. Ecaep and Dnik were standing watch. As the evening sun settled on the Sea of Humanity, casting a rose colored hue upon the clouds that danced through the twilight sky, Dnik said, "I can still see the shadow." Ecaep replied saying, "Even though the Shadow of Doubt still follows us, if we stay centered in our purpose, our reason will prevail. Harmony in Love must be restored."
As Ecaep and his companions met each new day with optimism and dreams of the adventures that awaited them, the Winds of Change carried them closer to the land of Blink. On a day much like all of the others, finally Captain Etaf said, "Tomorrow we shall enter the realm of Unconscious Reality, so tonight we will celebrate, and honor you and your quest."
Almost invisible to the naked eye, the Shadow of Doubt still followed the travelers lingering far behind Kismat Allah. The opposite force had only one purpose, to end the quest, for if harmony in Love is restored the Shadow of Doubt will cease to exist.
The mood was light aboard Kismat Allah, as the ships crew sang and danced under a brightly moon lit sky. Captain Etaf, standing above them all, lifted his hand and silence fell upon Kismat Allah. He said to Ecaep and his companions, "Our hopes and our wishes go with you when you leave our company, for you carry with you the hope of all who have ever been all who are, and all who are to come. You have all chosen this path, and we honor you for your choice." With A clap of his hands, the crew began laying gifts at the feet of the travelers, with pomp and ceremony. As each gift was received the bearer would bow and back away showing much love and respect. To Ecaep the captain presented a jewel laden sword that sang when Ecaep held it in his hand. Ecaep smiled with wonder and delight as the sword began to glow with the Light of Understanding, becoming the greater light of the moon light night. The other travelers were given jewels and golden armor worthy of their quest.
As the morning sun kissed the horizon Kismat Allah had reached the shores of Blink, deep within the realm of Unconscious Reality. Evola awoke with a song in her heart, all of the travelers met the new day with excitement in their hearts, welcoming the adventures that await them. Captain Etaf and the crew of Kismat Allah all gathered on deck to bid the travelers farewell.
The Port of Blink was alive with activity, as Kismat Allah sailed into the safety of the harbor. This was a place that exists between the dream and wakefulness, a land of twilight slumber.
The travelers were put on shore with their horses, but still the Shadow of Doubt followed them in the distance. As they moved through the city no one seemed to notice them. The streets twisted and wound through a maze of brightly colored buildings, and finally to an open square in the center of town. Street vendors and story tellers sold their wares and spun their tales. There were musicians and magicians. There were those who sang and those who danced. The sky was full of ideas and dreams colorfully floating by, ready to be claimed, fulfilled, and then made manifest. The travelers viewed these sights with wonder and amazement as they slowly moved through the market place.
Ecaep spoke to his companions saying, "We must find Tsurt the keeper of Precious Things, just as Modsiw the Magnificent instructed us to do before we left the Mountain of Dreams."
"The realm of Unconscious Reality is a very different place indeed," commented Evola, "Anything can be what you make it to be." As she looked deeper into her knowing she said, "There is one in this market place who will show us to the dwelling place of Tsurt, the keeper of Precious Things."
The inhabitants of this land were as varied as the city there were large ones and small ones. Some with painted faces and some with flowing robes. Some dressed as beggars with shabby cloths. Some held in a dream, some wide awake and even one who charmed a snake. From the throng, trumpets sounded and the crowd parted. A royal entourage danced and sang a sacred song as the crowd threw flower petals before them forming a bright multicolored carpet so that the feet of those in the royal parade never touched the ground. In the midst of the procession, carried by the Royal Guard, upon a throne adorned with jewels and flowers sat the Oracle of Consciousness, Aedi, High Priestess, seer of things to come, and ruler of the realm of Unconscious Reality.
As she neared the travelers, Aedi raised her hand and the whole procession stopped, the crowd became silent. She turned to the travelers and said, "Welcome my friends, your journey is well known in the heart of all! You are here today at this anointed time by no mistake." Ecaep stepped forward and said, "I am Ecaep the Seeker and these are my companions Evola, Dnik, Traeh, and Thgil." The travelers all bowed the high priestess as they were introduced. Ecaep continued, "We have come to find Tsurt, the keeper of Precious Things, who dwells in your realm." "I am Aedi, the Oracle of Consciousness. I know of whom you speak, the only way to Tsurt, the keeper of Precious Things, will take you on a perilous journey through this land. The swamp of Unconscious Creation will be your greatest challenge yet. Come join us and I will tell you more of your chosen destiny."
Ecaep and the travelers joined them in their procession as it moved slowly through the market place, with the throngs honoring them, the children of the town would run up to the travelers, bringing them flowers and singing, "Love has brought you here, Love will take you away. The Love you seek is near, that Love will save the day."
The procession led them out of the city onto a stone path high on the face of a cliff overlooking the city. There they entered a huge cavern, and the dwelling place of the Oracle of Consciousness. As they entered the torch lit cavern the travelers saw their own likenesses carved in the walls of stone. Aedi was carried to her throne and as she sat upon it an ominous glow filled the cavern, illuminating the chamber, which now looked more like a temple than a cave. Aedi pointed to the carvings on the wall and said, "Today the prophecy of your coming is fulfilled. The hope and happiness of all that is rests in your hands." She continued, "We are honored by your presence, As I said before, each of you are known in the heart of all, the beat of that heart is the common thread by which we are all bound together, for we all share the same heart beat, it is the same force that causes the blood to flow through my veins that causes your heart to beat. What happens to you happens to everyone. The idea that we are separate is the grand illusion. If you make it through the Swamp of Unconscious Creation you will then face the Walls of Separation that must be broken down before Tsurt the keeper of Precious Things will reveal herself to you."
Ecaep and his companions listened intently to Aedi, the Oracle of Consciousness. Ecaep said, "tell us more about the Swamp of Unconscious Creation, and what is it that causes it to exist?" "You ask good questions Ecaep," said Aedi, "I will tell you of wishing, and warnings, and things unknown to you. The Swamp of Unconscious Creation is made from the unbridled thoughts that flow forth from the idle or un-purposed minds of all who are, who are to be, and all who have ever been." She continued, "It is when unconscious thought is allowed to exist without direction that unconscious creation is made manifest from the un-purposed fragments of life itself. Most that enter the Swamp of Unconscious Creation never leave. No matter how hard they try, all of their strength is spent dealing with the reality of their own unconscious creation. The swamp is a cold, dark and wet place, not friendly to man nor beast, which allows unenlightened thought to cling to itself unconsciously, keeping those who lack conscious direction from finding their way out." Aedi explained further, "Because the substance of the swamp is part of everyone in every realm, you and your companions will encounter your own unconscious thoughts and creations as obstacles during your perilous journey through the Swamp of Unconscious Creation. There is nothing more powerfully affecting your ability to navigate this swamp than the realization that unconscious thought creates real circumstances unconsciously, as well as conscious thought creates real circumstances founded in knowledge and understanding of the conscious thought. Some of the obstacles that you are confronted with will be of your own making and can only be dealt with by the power of your own conscious thought. When by thought we touch the highest good within ourselves we become as a song that is sung by the Heart of All to the entire universe, bringing forth the expression of love within and without. Your conscious thoughts of love and goodness will be your greatest ally on this dangerous journey, because only love and goodness will have the power to overcome unconscious creation. Do not dwell in fear and keep your thoughts in the light of truth and love, and that light will be your guide. It is the Road of Consequence that will lead you to and through the Swamp of Unconscious Creation. It is long and winding road through the deeds of all, and upon that road the light of truth and love will keep you from the consequence of negative thought. If you succeed, that road will lead you to the Walls of Separation, the grandest illusion of all realms, and only when they are broken down will Tsurt the keeper of Precious Things reveal herself, and then we will all become one. When we all become One World, One Heart, One Love, your quest will be ended, and harmony in Love will be restored. But now it is time for you Ecaep, and your companions to feast with us and prepare for the perilous journey that awaits you. You shall all be honored guests and all that you desire shall be yours."
With a clap of her hands Aedi's disciples began laying forth a feast of royal preparation, followed by dancers that moved with exotic emotion, and then came the singers all with one voice singing praises and well wishes to the travelers. The companions were amazed by this fantastic event as the dancers spun the majestic tale of the road they had already traveled, as it already been told to them in the prophecies of old. The singers sang, "From the Realm of Dreams you have come. Soon we shall all be One. The Valley of Shadows you have crossed. The Companions of all and no one was lost. The light of the Knowing brought you through. Now our praises we give to you. The Forest of Illusion was no task. Your hearts were true and love did last. Across the Pools of Time you did walk. As you met the challenge and did not talk. Of that which was or was to be. With the eyes of Love you did see. The Mountain of Dreams you ascended. Your broken hearts would be mended. At the top you were met. Modsiw's wisdom you would get. He gave you gifts and told you tales. To help you follow the prophetic trail. Upon the sea you were tossed. To our shores you were brought. And now it is this story is told. As it was in the days of old."
When the performance was finished the singers and dancers stood before the travelers and bowed to them in reverence. Ecaep and his companions, in turn one by one stood up and bowed to the performers. Aedi clapped her hands once more and the performers rushed out of the chamber. Aedi began to speak and once again the chamber was filled with that ominous mystic glow as she said to the Travelers, "The performance that you have just experienced has been done thousands of times through out the ages, by our people, in the knowledge that this day would come." She continued, "Just as your images are carved on the walls and your names are known by all, so is the purpose of your quest. I have watched your journey from the very beginning. Tonight is the last time that performance will ever be done, the last time that song will be sung, the last time that dance will be spun, for on this day it has all come true and the prophecy of old is now fulfilled."
She then said to Ecaep and his companions, "You still have far to go and more perils to face and overcome, and two more chosen souls will be added to your expedition. One will be a fierce but honorable warrior, and the other is one who holds the promise of all, she is fragile and will be in need of your protection, but now it is time for all of you to rest and make ready for the adventures that await you upon the Road of Consequence."
Aedi clapped her hands again and her disciples appeared again to take the travelers to their bed chambers. In the morning they were led to the Road of Consequence to begin their new adventure. As they started out they were filled with the optimism that has dominated their journey from the start. The morning sun had just peaked over the horizon in the Realm of Unconscious Reality, the clouds were laced with red, orange, and purple hews as the wind blew a song of strength and courage to the travelers. The Road of Consequence was paved with the consequences of everyone that is, ever was, or ever will be with pit-falls and traps along the way. The size and shape of the pit-falls varied as much as the thoughts and deeds of those that had created them. The traps ranged from mild to deadly and were created by the thoughts and deeds of all as well. Evola, seeing all of the pit-falls and traps within her knowing , said to her companions, "We must be very careful and take care on this Road of Consequence, for it would be very easy for any of us to fall pray to the creations of others upon this chosen path of ours. Some of these pits are so deep that there would be no escape if we were to fall into one. Let us all keep the thoughts of love and goodness present in our minds, and a watchful eye toward the traps and pit-falls that lay ahead." The travelers moved cautiously over the Road of Consequence keeping their thoughts pure with love and goodness. The consequences that made up the road were good and bad, and it was necessary for them to stay firmly footed upon the good to stay upon the road, because a step into the bad would be a step into the quicksand of life which could suck them under, never to recover without the power of love. The quicksand of life appeared as the dark spots in the Road of Consequence. It would be necessary for the travelers to ride upon the light portions of the road so as not to be pulled down by the consequences of life that exist in the quicksand of life caused by the unconscious creations of all. Evola said to Ecaep and her companions, "The dark spots are becoming more dominant and powerful from the negative affects of that mire which is the quicksand of life. I feel the negative magnetism growing within my knowing. I sense it will become more and more powerful as we near the Swamp of Unconscious Creation, but we still have far to travel and many dangers before we reach that point."
The travelers cautiously moved forward, guiding their horses onto the light portions of the road, with their thoughts in harmony with one another keeping love and goodness as the protection of their purpose, and the hopes of all that were, are, and ever will be filling their hearts. As the travelers rode upon the Road of Consequence leaving behind Aedi, the Oracle of Consciousness, they pondered all that they had heard and the wonders of what they had witnessed. The songs and dances were still alive and vividly playing in their minds. The beauty of Aedi and the grace of her disciples were vivid images that had captured their thoughts as they continued their quest to restore harmony in Love. Evola searched her knowing for those that would joining them on their journey, however they were to far off and could not be found. The travelers could feel the power of the consequences upon the road they followed. The good of the consequences filled them with joy, while the negative of the consequences were filled with sorrow. Dnik said to his companions, "I saw glimpses of this road as I fell through time and it was the danger ahead that caused me to fall back through time toward you by the power of love.

The Dream
The Dream
It has been over 10 years since the awakening in the dream. I stood in the presents of the biggest, most awesome, most brilliant light that one could possibly experience. Everything above me, around me, and below me was the light; even the ground upon which I stood was the light. I was humbled and grateful, lowering myself to a fetal position. I melted together with the light in mind and spirit, and began to communicate without words with what I call heart speak. I felt as though I was there forever and yet only an instant. I brought with me to consciousness a since of awe, and a knowledge within my heart to cease the practice of eating meat, this was easy for me to do. In seeking to understand just what had happened to me, or for me, or with me I pondered with a new respect for all living creatures. Even as I write the vivid experience of being in this fantastic presents remains as bright in my consciousness as the instant of the dream, only never fading as most dreams do. For me this sleep full awakening has been the beginning of my conscious contact with the universal heart of all. I now see the cosmic universe in all things and have my feet planted firmly on a spiritual path. As the years pass it feels as though I have received a cosmic download that is gradually revealing itself as a bud blossoms into a flower.
The Ballad of 100 Lives
The Ballad of a Hundred Lives
By
Thomas J. Segel
Soup for my heart and frosting for my brain:
Joy fills my heart as I think of mystic rains.
God's tempest did kiss the ocean's waves,
And sent the smell of salt and spray a-dancing to my face.
Majestic falls so clear and free
Came tumbling to the sea.
Did thrill my heart and
Fill my mind with how a man should be.
While at my side the Rose of Life did sigh,
And sing a woman's prayer.
Of life, and love, and forgotten songs...
Of wind in children's hair...
With thoughts of past and future mixed
The honking geese did fly,
Towards the sun to kiss the clouds
And praise the earth and skies.
Then came a clash of mind-to-mind
That shattered the woman's prayer,
While upon her burned the eyes
Of saddened life, and lost despair.
O Woman! You have climbed a mountain
Seeking Kingdoms at the top....
And I am but a man and can not
Tell you when to stop.
Still you sing and still you laugh
And joy is now at hand:
One day you will sigh and then
We will fly to kiss the angel band,
And then be sent back to earth to labor hand-in-hand!
Look upon the boundless ocean
Place your ear in the billowing wind;
Turn around, then look back again!
The world has turned another time.
And left dreams of satin
Memories of bittersweet wine....
Moods do change as summer to fall;
But how many will stand up to the call?
Of love so rightly wronged?
By the sound of a crying lovebird's song.
And who will stand in the flaming light
Of warm expression on a cold winter's night.
To sing a song of love anew
And let its laughter ring in the morning's dew.
Even now as a fire lights the night,
You stumble on and hug the ground
Like a stranger with loss of sight.
O Woman standing on the edge of time!
Cast away your silver dreams of wine.
Then turn and run into the depths of night,
And let the flames of love be your guiding light.
I am but a drop in a boundless sea,
But even now my God has his eyes on me.
I know he will break the darkness and give me sight,
By sending me just one true love that is right.
On the crossroads I stand alone,
Just waiting to find my heart a home.
I shall not falter in my task,
To find myself a love to last.
O Lady standing beneath the ancient oak,
Creating visions in the golden smoke.
And giving wings to the angels' song,
Of love that cannot go wrong.
One day I shall find just where I belong.
Shine O stars, cast off your radiant beams,
For I know you are sending down sparkling dreams.
You set my mind afire,
Burning with just one desire:
That is to catch you before you fall,
Or to climb one of your beams so tall.
You hold the key to Heaven's Door...
I know I needn't say anymore.
But still the night lingers on,
Dancing and singing its fruitless songs.
You must beware of the moon-eyed maiden,
Her hair a'golden and eyes of satin,
She will show you splendor in her arms.
Then build in you a raging fire,
That will scorch your soul as her flames reach higher.
Heed my warnings: I tell no stories,
For many lost souls have died in her glories.
Even now I must ramble on,
After singing to you my crazy song.
I can tell you where we are all headed in this world,
That is, before we climb those steps of pearl.
Stop! Look around! What do you see?
Your friends, a jug of wine and me.
And so to you this tale is told,
Of a poor little man with a whole lot of gold.
Take from this ballad just what you can,
For I have my own joy to spread throughout the land.
A gold-spun love that I know will not die,
She walks by my side and I needn't ask why.
O Lord, I do thank you for this heavenly gift
You have taken my poor heart from the drift
Of longing for love the whole night through
And you have stopped a lonely soul from wandering, too.
Give me the strength to carry on,
And let all be right when the day is done.
The sun shining in through the trees,
The wind fills my heart with a fragrant breeze.
I hear the sounds of a princess come to call,
Her silver voice rings through the halls.
Of the once-dead temple of love,
Made alive by my God up above.
If you care to sing my song.
We will dance together the whole day long.
Listen to the call of the lost sheep,
Who wonder all the day then cry in their sleep.
For theirs is the saddest of tunes,
Played by the wind as it howls at the moon.
And now ninety-nine lives have passed,
And I have but just one to last.
Till the golden trumpets blow,
And the Lord comes down to claim my soul.
So I bid you all have peace of mind,
For no one really knows the time.
When there will be no more songs and no more wine.
Watch the sea otters on the reefs as they play,
Caressing the aqua-blues waves all the day.
Stand if you will on the purple sands,
And look up at the trees created by God's own Hand.
Blow O Wind: Carry your message afar,
You know how right you are.
Let the birds in the sky take to wing.
They truly hear the song you sing.
Hear Mother Nature's joyful cry,
And let her sacred children fly.
All of this is God's monument to man,
So my last life I will lay in His Hands.
I now have an everlasting worldly love,
To take with me to heaven above!
And I have found my wandering heart a home,
So no more will it have to roam.
And I have ended the endless task,
To find myself an eternal love to last.
But in my search for this brilliant love,
I've followed many a path to hold my star up above;
And I could not touch or possess truth's gold,
Until I saw the road of my own soul.

The Crystal King
The Crystal King
By
Thomas J. Segel
Sailing on a sea of sound, living in the air,
The Captain turns the ship around to show us that he cares.
The waters of this love so true show crystal-sparkling blue,
And all the world holds hope in hand and turns their eyes toward you.
We have waited so long for you to come and take your ship
And now we are all climbing on to join you on your trip.
And even though the skies be red on early morning seas,
With perilous times ahead and our journey meant to be,
We give you complete command, for we love you and the sea.
So then we trim the sails and head toward the Northern Lights,
And those at home grow smaller as we sail then out of sight.
Our eyes then turn toward the sea and toward the Southern Cross,
While we catch the trades winds and follow the albatross.
The Captain then stands over the ship, a mighty man is he,
And all the crew stands speechless, not a dry eye can be seen.
"I love you," bellowed out a voice that traveled over the sea,
"and need every one of you, e'er this journey is meant to be."
And his voice did tremble as he stretched forth his hand,
He said, "You have chosen to follow me into this magic land.
I do not know where our sails will lead or what mysteries will unfold,
And I have never promised you riches, silks or gold.
But the things that we will share sailing this universe,
Will belong to you and me for better or for worse."
We then unfurled the sails and laid our course toward the sky,
Without a single one of us asking the captain why.
Sailing through the causeway on our journey through the stars,
Adrift we found the vagabonds, all shipwrecked, cut and scarred.
We quickly pulled them aboard, our brethren of the sea,
And made them part of the crew; our Captain was very pleased.
"Our lives you have given us," said these giants of the North,
"At your service we remain, no matter what your course."
The winds blew cold over our souls; I was lashed to the wheel.
The Captain came out to relieve me, for he had felt the cutting chill.
"Go below, my friend," said the Captain with a smile.
The warmth that penetrated my heart would last me all the while.
The crew did dance below the deck, though we were tumbled and tossed,
But we weathered the mighty storm and not a single soul was lost.
We worked hard mending our ship from torn sail and busted boom;
Our hands were busy stitching sails and cleaning every room.
When all the work was done, more merriment was made,
The rum was passed, the songs were sung, as we danced and played.
‘Twas early in the morn, I heard the watchman's cry,
"Land ahead! I see it clear !" A welcome sight, I sighed.
"Look off the starboard bow! Tall peaks do fill the air!"
And many a sore eye were glued to the northern fjords out there.
With the suddenness of a heart beat, the northern winds did squall,
Then a wave came over the bow, thirty cubits tall!
Our ship then came to rest inside a sheltered cove.
The crew was so happy, some from the mast they dove
And swam ashore to climb the rock and feel the solid ground.
They kissed the shore and joined their hearts
In the most beautiful of sound:
"Thank you, Oden; Thank you, Thor, from our journey you have brought
Us to the shore of our birth and the land of our thought.
You did pluck us from the sea, all shipwrecked, cut and scarred,
And delivered us to our home, the journey perilous and hard.
But now we find we love you and your brethren we remain.
When it is time to leave, we will sail with you again.
A landing party went ashore, following these giants of the north;
They embraced us well and filled our stores, so we could stay our course.
They then showered us with gifts for bringing their kinsmen home,
And they took us into their hearts, for we never felt alone.
The Captain then summoned us all; it was the calling of the sea.
And he said, "All hands on board, e'er this journey is meant to be."
He then surveyed the crew, both southern men and north,
We all stood arm-in-arm, each man knowing his worth.
He said with a pounding heart, "A fine crew you have become!
And with all of you under my command, there is nothing that cannot be done.
We have all felt the peril of the sea,
And you have all stood fast and brave, and stole the heart of me.
So, on we will sail, together, with more mysteries to unfold;
And we will share the treasure, be it death, riches or gold."
Again we trimmed the sails and followed the Northern Lights,
Bidding farewell to our new-found friends as we sailed then out of sight.
The Northern Lights grew brighter as we followed our course,
And though the days be darkened, we could feel the force...
Of something much stronger than we have ever felt before,
And it somehow frightened me as we drew nigh unto the door.
The ice looked like cathedrals-spires shooting in the air-
And there was a dark, ominous hole between two of them out there!
The Captain steered our ship toward that darkened hole,
And the crew was frightened and holding on for their very souls.
As we went through the abyss, a bright light began to glow,
And the crew felt at ease, for the light did bless our souls.
The lights were dancing off the ice with a diamond glitter-glow:
The whole crew was wide-eyed, for such things we had never known.
As we stood in awe at the wondrous, crystal shimmering lights brightly shone,
The Captain then called to the crew saying, "These riches you can never own.
So fill your eyes and fill your hearts with the beauty you behold."
In silence then we did sail for the next day or two,
And all of us looked younger, for in the lights we were renewed.
The crew gathered together as we fell upon our knees,
And thanked the Lord for life given to us in our deepest need.
Our eyes were filled with wonder in this world of the unknown;
Sparkling shards were everywhere, some from the sky were grown.
The sparkling lights were shimmering as young men we became,
Each of us with the strength of ten so young and strong we remain.
The Captain said, Behold, an Ice Palace lay ahead!"
We sailed toward it in silence, not a single word was said.
"It is from this place the Northern Lights do shine..."
And though we all felt drunkened, no one had touched the wine.
The sound of angels came from the palace bold,
And we all listened as we heard the story told:
" ‘Tis the Palace of the Crystal King, The keeper of the Lights.
We are all here to serve him well, and have watched your journey's flight
From the day that you set sail from your southern land,
And though you never noticed it, we have led you by the hand.
So do come in and join us here!
Our King desires your presence near.
So come now and present yourselves, starting with your Captain, brave and true,
And let him be paraded in, carried by the rest of you.
All of your needs will be met, and even your wants so true,
So come and join us now; the King is awaiting you!"
Our ship came to rest at a crystal dock,
Crystal sleds then pulled us to the Palace rock
Where they were tied and we went in
To present ourselves before the King
At the doors we did stand and step back in awe,
And once again we could hear the palace call.
The tall doors did slowly open, and music came pouring out-
A sound so pure it made us want to jump and shout!
We composed ourselves and lined up for parade;
Inside the door a throne was set to carry our Captain brave.
We paraded in through the halls
Of sparkling shards and shimmering walls.
We passed then through two more large doors into the chamber of the lights:
This is the place where all is well and it never has been night!
As we gazed at crystals growing up through the ground,
With each of them shimmering and making the most beautiful sound.
And though the stones were singing, from each was a story told
Of our journey from the start-stories perilous and bold:
In each one were images of each portion of our trip;
They showed us all of the crew as well as the Captain and the ship.
The chamber of the Lights was so large we could not see the other side.
As we carried our Captain down the crystal walk, our hearts were full of pride!
The shimmering glitter-glow was sparkling around,
Filling our ears and filling our hearts was the most beautiful of shimmering sound
Of the story stones and the singing walls-
And all of this contained within the shimmering chamber hall.
The crystal walk was lined with crystal story stones
Leading up to the cathedral-like chair-the likes of which we have never known.
We came to a stop before the steps to the chair and let our Captain down;
We then all stood in awe as we gathered around.
Our Captain bold then stood up and gazed upon the chair;
An angel's voice called to him saying, "Climb up and be seated there."
Our Captain slowly climbed the steps to this majestic throne,
And as he sat down upon it, the shimmering lights were brightly shown!
A sound so beautiful did fill the air as an angel choir began to sing,
They raised their voices in unison singing, "Behold The Crystal King!
The Crystal King is here!
We have waited so long to have him near.
It was time for you to come-
Now all the world will pound the drum.
The Crystal King is here;
The world will see it clear!
His love is felt throughout the world; now the time has come
The rising of the Son.
The Crystal King is here
All the world will see it clear!
The Crystal King is here!
And it could only be you
With your heart so brave and true-
It could only be you!"
The angels then did bow down before the throne in adoration
After which he was lifted up in complete exaltation.
As the angels lifted our Captain brave,
We realized then he was our King and our allegiance gave.
As we bowed down together, both Southern men and North, We could feel the love of our new-found King, and we could feel his worth.
As we looked up to see our King,
A bright light was shining behind his head in the shape of rings,
The glory that we only then did see
Was almost far too much with me.
For my heart did fill with love,
Which did flow to me from up above.
And all of the crew did feel the same
As we began to sing his name.
"Behold, the Crystal King! Our hearts are now filled with love
You have sent to us from above.
"Behold, the Crystal King! The world will be a better place
Since you have come to take your place.
"Behold, the Crystal King! "Behold, the Crystal King!"
The Captain then came down to greet us and said, "I love everyone of you."
Each of you may decide what you want to do.
You may remain here with me, or go back to your home so true.
If you remain here with me, you will never grow old.
If you decide to leave, you may take diamonds, gems and gold.
I was the only one who decided to leave that day,
So the angels brought me and the ship home all the way.
The Captain gave me the title, and many chests of gems and gold:
Someone had to leave so this story could be told.
As for the rest of the crew,
They were led into a garden true
With fruit on every tree,
And animals tame to you and me.
As for our Captain bold, his love spread from there throughout all lands....
For he is the Crystal King, and still he leads me by the hand!

On joy and sorrow, "The Balance"
The Balance
The sting of time dances on.
In the night and early morn.
Singing of love gained and love lost.
We are left to count the cost.
Sorrow visits then it goes away.
Joy awakens a brand new day.
When joy dances and sings with you.
Sorrow lay asleep waiting for its time to.
It is in the balance we stand.
Between the two we take their hand.
Who can say which is greater?
Who holds the scale between now and later?
By what infinite measure shall we weigh
The joy and sorrow that visits each day?
For both are bound together by love.
Pulling at us with the push and shove.
From joy the happiness, from sorrow the pain.
Making our lives full with the loss and the gain.
Within each our growth is found.
The larger we grow the smaller the sound.
Of joy and sorrow we hear.
For they shall mark every year.
That we draw breath upon the Earth.
Showing to each of us what love is worth.
Thank you,

For the Dream of Peace
"For the Dream of Peace"
By: Thomas J. Segel
The sky so blue, the sea so green.
A more lovely sight is seldom seen.
The wind blows and carries my mind away.
To a distant land, and another day.
I see a village by the shore.
A thatch-roofed hut and an open door.
The nets are strung on a beam outside.
They are being sewn with strings of hide.
I can hear the pounding drum.
Calling in each and every one.
From their work and from their play.
For this was a special day.
The yield of the sea had been kind.
There was food for all to find.
And offered for a special feast.
To ride the wind, to tame the beast.
All who came did dance and eat.
Some sat down by the Master's feet.
To listen to the words he spoke.
Within their hearts the silence broke.
I am here to reveal to you.
The causes of the things you do.
To plant within your heart a seed.
To fill even your deepest need.
To share the mystery of love.
To show you dreams from up above.
To lift your heart and make you whole.
To begin the stirring of your soul.
Be still and know the silence now.
A small still voice will tell you how.
To kindle the fire that dwells within.
Which is the place you must begin.
In silence your soul will speak.
Of the things that men do seek.
Softly spoken and seldom heard.
Comes the most enchanting word.
I am who you are.
Together we are a rising star.
To shine above for all to see.
To find who they must really be.
The journey of your soul must start.
In the essence of your heart.
For it is that precious seed.
That overpowers hate and greed.
To build anew compassion's fire.
To make love your heart's desire.
Let your heart direct your course.
Yielding to its tender force.
Standing naked at love's door.
Cross the threshold with nothing more.
For only love may enter in.
Then from the heart flow out again.
Filled with joy and filled with pain.
The journey of your soul remains.
A mystery in your conscious mind.
Bound by space, locked in time.
In love is found the key.
To open up eternity.
For love cannot be bound.
Within it is the freedom found.
To lift your heart and make you high.
The answer to the question why.
And to love what would you give.
For it allows your soul to live.
Asking nothing in return.
Hoping every heart will learn.
Love needs nothing but itself to grow.
Once the heart is full, it overflows.
To spill out across the skies.
To open up the blinded eyes.
To remind the heart of man.
So that you may take a stand.
And do all that must be done.
For you are the only one.
Who can make the change today.
Within your heart you'll find the way.
Again he lifted high his voice.
And said that peace must be the choice.
Too long has war been on the land.
Too long has man been killing man.
What causes the killing need.
That comes from fear and comes from greed.
You have forgotten where you come from.
The journey back is hard for some.
To hear the calling of your soul.
To remember the things you know.
That have always been a part of you.
It is part of the job at hand.
To raise the consciousness of man.
To stop the war that wages within.
The only place you can begin.
When peace is found one heart at a time.
The nations will follow down the line.
For when you realize you are your brother.
You can no longer hurt one another.
Peace will come from the inside out.
Then no longer will you shout.
Filled with hurt and filled with pain.
For only peace will then remain.
In passing time, all wounds will heal.
And you will know then what is real.
Peace may shape the destiny of man.
Then once again rule the land.
But it is you who must choose.
Will humanity win or lose.
The changes must start today.
Within your heart you'll find the way.
The words I speak draw you near.
It is the truth you long to hear.
Truth is a gem among the coal.
It is the food that feeds the soul.
Forged again in passion's fire.
And becomes the soul's desire.
It is in truth that love can grow.
It is in truth that peace we know.
It is life and love you give.
When within the truth you live.
In truth awakening begins.
In truth the light may enter in.
May the light fill your soul.
May the higher calling be your goal.
By now many people had come.
Brought by the pounding of the drum.
To the Master they pressed near.
He climbed a hill so all could hear.
As he lifted up his hand.
A stillness fell upon the land.
You have all become my heart.
More words to you will I impart.
The deepness of the truth you feel.
Bears witness to what is real.
And what you know within your soul.
Shows forth in the brightness of your being.
When enlightened is the path you walk.
Joy is found in the way you talk.
What causes this enlightening.
From what does this joy now spring.
Again the trail will lead within.
To the place you must begin.
For only in silent thought.
Is the power of creation caught.
From there it is the light does flow.
And in your heart you will know.
The light is meant to share with all.
And any who will hear the call.
Knowing when the call is heard.
That you will receive the word.
The word is love, peace, truth, and joy.
Found in the heart of girl and boy.
As my gaze falls upon the sea.
I know this joy is meant to be.
Now others pay while I go free.
For the doors are open to me.
I behold the wonder of it all.
And listen to my spirit call.
In recent dreams and ancient time.
Live eternal thoughts sublime.
In the shadowed light I seek.
The meaning of the words I speak.
Found in the heart of all.
Indwelling in the trees so tall.
Heard in the muted breath.
Intertwined in life and death.
Reaching for the faded thing.
Listening to freedom ring
.
And sound aloud for all mankind.
Marking well for all who find.
That simple peace within your heart.
Again the place that you must start.
So, beloved, take the chance.
Join me in the sacred dance.
Rise and let your spirit fly.
Racing through the windswept sky.
That you may touch the silver strand.
Tied to us by God's own hand.
As the sun sets upon the shore.
The knowledge of you heart will soar.
Awake again in mystic dreams.
The knowledge of eternal things.
Found at the point of peace within.
Again the place you must begin.
And the truth that you do find.
Must be shared with human kind.
We stand in the temple of the sun.
With no place for us to run.
We must be at peace in our home.
We will never be alone.
All creation reaches out.
It shows us without a doubt.
That we will never cease to be.
It is the same for you and me.
Eternal dreams are now.
In your heart you know how.
Though we stand on the line.
The wind blows the sand of time.
From here and now to evermore.
So together let's step through the door.
To make the world a better place.
At this point in time and space.
When you realize that we are one.
The people, the planet, and the setting sun.
Be then mindful of what you do.
For what touches one touches all of you.
To the Earth you must be kind.
Learning well from what you find.
In each treasure you behold.
Is a sacred story told.
Of awesome wonder, bold delight.
The precious gift, the clearest sight.
Is there for any who will see.
And in the knowing you will be.
Darkness settled on the land.
In the torch light he did stand.
The people hungered for his words.
And cherished the treasures heard.
Old and young, big and small.
Silence was upon them all.
The Master called a young one near.
Then said to all that would hear.
If you could look through this one's eyes.
You would see the truth and hear the cries.
Of all of those yet to come.
You would do what must be done.
Your thoughts are of yesterday.
But tomorrow's child will lead the way.
And follow him you must.
If in love and peace you trust.
We stand upon common ground.
Together our lives are bound.
By the one within us all.
Hoping we will hear the call.
Whispered from that timeless place.
Found upon the child's face.
In the touch of a stranger's hand.
Compassion in a foreign land.
The song that causes the heart to sing.
The tenderness that love does bring.
Helping the helpless child.
The gentle spirit, meek and mild.
Let this moment fill your soul.
Listen to the things you know.
Take another by the hand.
Help someone to understand.
What has been given, give away.
Let us start a brand new day.
It is you I treasure in my heart.
What draws you here marks the start.
Of changes in your world today.
Within your heart you'll find the way.
The moon had risen in the sky.
The people stood with a watchful eye.
One said Master, tell us more.
How may we pass through the door?
With his words he firmly said.
From the darkness you were led.
Now for you the time has come.
To share the light with everyone.
Let your highest thought be love.
The kind that flows from up above.
Let your clearest word be spoken.
Healing hearts that have been broken.
Let every heart beat as one.
Under the temple of the sun.
Let everyone become his brother.
In the heart of God there is no other.
Let compassion fill your soul.
Teaching well from what you know.
Let peace be the path you walk.
Showing forth in how you talk.
Let your truth light the way.
Breaking darkness of the day.
Let everyone do his part.
To heal our planet from the heart.
Let everyone hear the voice within.
Which will direct you home again.
It was now the second day of the feast.
Of riding the wind, of taming the beast.
The people watched for the Master to come.
While they danced to the sound of the drum.
He was the treasure of their land.
For he helped them to understand.
Though alone, he was never apart.
For he was held dearly in each one's heart.
He arrived on the fourth hour of the day.
All of the people made clear his way.
For him was made a special seat.
Built with love to the flow of the beat.
In their midst he sat above them all.
With outstretched arms, let his spirit call.
To any there that would hear.
So he could once again draw them near.
As silence fell upon that place.
He began to speak with heavenly grace.
My eyes have seen the love you hold.
From my heart another story told.
In dreams of this boundless sea.
Timeless visions come to me.
We are but a vapor in the wind.
But our soul continues without end.
So that when a life falls away.
It is to begin a brand new day.
The sorrow belongs to those left behind.
The departed enters a joy hard to find.
So let your sorrow be brief.
May you feel joy and not grief.
The love that has passed between is forever.
Deep within your heart you will never.
Have to say good-bye, but farewell.
In another place, another time.
Locked inside an ancient rhyme.
You shall see each other again.
It is only the soul that knows when.
I feel the Earth breathe with the surge of the sea.
I am filled with the power it gives to me.
I once again dwell in that timeless place.
I feel the love of the gentle race.
That lives within every heart.
Again the place that you must start.
The message I give is clear.
He who has ears, let him hear.
He who has eyes, let him see.
The wondrous glory meant to be.
Thus were the words he spoke at the feast.
It was he who rode the wind and tamed the beast.
For all who heard let their spirits fly.
On mystic winds of eternal sky.
Within each heart the beast was tamed.
So no one would ever be the blame.
And so it is that this story is told.
To any who will hear and take hold.
Of the truth contained within.
Again the place you must begin.
